Outfitted bathroom sink

Added hardware to the MF sink.

I’ve had time to settle back in from the Austin run.  I’ve done some plumbing, replacing the kitchen drain and toilet fill valve.  I’ve done my fair share of cooking, sloppy joes, eggs ackley, split pea soup, and more.  I have been eating well and staying within budget.  But I go to the store for light loads two, three times a week.  Ah, life in the city.

It’s warming, though we had a late cold snap this week.  It brushed the 30’s for a couple of nights, but the wild flowers handled it well.   Most of the time has been short sleeves and open doors.

Took me awhile and had to go through a number of movies before I could get back to 3D.  But I did get modo crackin’ again.

Sitting tree 2

Posted on Sunday, March 16th, 2014 at 5:28 pm

The first sitting tree was a little wimpy, and not very shady, so I made another one with more tree.

A tree with a bent trunk, where one mgt park oneself in the shade for a bit of a rest.

Window shade

In modo.  The texture is from my old serape pack, still in the CG section, #6.

Another piece of tableware.  In modo.

Square bowl

Square bowl, modo.

Rat, modo.

Agave, sans thorns, in modo.

Lancia Aurelia B24 Spider

Posted on Tuesday, February 18th, 2014 at 6:24 pm

Playing around in modo with a Lancia model I found.  Tweaking the shaders that didn’t really make it over intact in format conversion has taken most of the time and effort.  The scale on this one is huge, in the kilometers.  It needs to be dropped about 1000:1 to size up properly with the mainstream scales.

From one of the tutorials for modo.  Bugmech.  I’m starting to get a little creative interest again, a good sign.

A glass of wine on a cold night

Wine generated in RealFlow, wine glass in modo.  Rendered in modo.

Dueling fountains

Another collision of particles.  Two fountains pointed up and at each other.  Fairly early in the sequence.  RealFlow OBJ, rendered in modo.

Stars upon the water

A couple of modeling projects to start off the month.  A tree topper star for the season spirit, and a water fountain to remind me of summer, when I didn’t have to wear so many clothes.

Dueling Power Beams

Posted on Friday, November 29th, 2013 at 6:51 pm

Playing with the newest RealFlow, catching up on my particles there as I dive into modo 7’s particles.  There is a distinct similarity in basics, but RealFlow has some new toys in 2013 that I’m having to learn as well.

I made another freebie, the third this year.  This one is just an OBJ.  I’m done with software specific formats and shaders.  If they want my offerings, they can settle for OBJ.

This freebie was pretty simple, two emitters pointing at each other, no external forces.  Kill set at age, five frames after collision, to get a decent splatter.  Shown with and without a point light with volumetrics.

I have been doing cross work between modo and RealFlow at the particle level, banging my head against the learning curve.  I have been downloading tutorials, learning GUIs and digging for where all the important buttons and menus are.  It’s very heady stuff, thick in behavioral rules and limits.  But it is great stuff, especially for animation.  Liquids, smoke and fire, replication, scatterings, and more are all things that can be parented to the particles.  Realistic waterfalls, pouring booze in a glass, dodging fireballs, volcanos, dancing fairies, magical forces, ants at a picnic, and so on.

The mechanics are pretty much what you’d expect from Newtonian physics.  Gravity, wind, acceleration, collisions, viscosity, density, and so forth, so I’m in my element.  It’s the way it’s all tied together to mimic physics.  Some of the methods don’t resemble the target action.

And then there is tying together rigging and particles with behavioral relationships.  When you turn the faucet knob, the water starts flowing.  When the trap door opens, fire erupts.  The mechanics are not that difficult.  The software is pretty logical.  But it takes familiarization, knowing where to look for what and how much.  These are the things that require doing to gain skill level.

It’s cold, travel is risky (wintery mix/freezing rain), and other than having a check to deposit in Hempstead (22 miles one way, no branch of my bank in Brenham), I have nowhere to go.  Pepsi at a decent price is two blocks away.  I’ll be banging my head against the learning curve a lot in the week ahead.

Splish splash

Playing around in RealFlow and modo.  A little subtle on the pool effects, but it’s there.

Nouveau sconce

Posted on Sunday, November 17th, 2013 at 6:12 am

A sconce that caught my eye.  It took a few minutes to balance the transparency, light source, and luminosity properly in modo, but the effect was worth it.

Another Austin run

Posted on Monday, November 4th, 2013 at 2:24 pm

Heading back to Austin for medication, as the bottles are getting low, due to run out this weekend.  Everything gets refilled for 90 days, so no need to see a doctor.

Planning on grabbing a number of things from storage.  Paying my storage bill and the gas for the trip will just about wipe me out.  It would be nice to find some work.

Cleaning out the center room for a bed.  I’ll be able to get away from sleeping in the truck.  Laundry tomorrow.  Store run this afternoon when it quits raining.

Spidi – modo render

For the zombie in your life.  modo

Another fuzzy

Posted on Sunday, October 6th, 2013 at 2:40 pm

Here is yet another huggable in modo.

Posted on Thursday, September 26th, 2013 at 3:42 pm

Missed adding this a few days ago.  Yet another lathe, texture based in ArtMatic.  Placemat texture is an oldie from my Serape package, over in the download section.

Heading to Elgin tomorrow for the weekend.  Multiple birthday party at the Mathews.

Posted on Friday, September 20th, 2013 at 7:55 am

I’ve been having trouble getting a blue texture that I like, but I think that I got it this time.

Posted on Wednesday, September 18th, 2013 at 8:21 am

I succumbed to another piece of pottery.

Posted on Saturday, September 14th, 2013 at 9:12 am

The bed package that I got has been delightful to play with in modo.  At least they’ve been more fun than my real life bed as of late.
