Just some stuff coming out of this or that studio in the last few days.

Nothing noteworthy, just the sort of testing new stuff gets on a daily basis.  I always enjoy a good piece of 3D, and sometimes a bad one.

Mountain bike tut

Played around with the modeling tutorial for modo 4.0.1 for making a mountain bike.  I discovered that there isn’t too much that I don’t already know about modo modeling.

.

I shaded it some and added a shadow catcher.  It still needs some refinements to the material zones, especially on the body.

Nursery graphics

Here’s an adaptation of a vector that I did back a few months ago.  It will probably end up being a logo for a vegetation supply.

Pause for a breather

Posted on Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 at 2:44 pm

Well, not a total pause, but an improvement in attitude all around.  Off the golf course and back at the garden (no longer needing the watering I gave it this last summer).  Attitude is remarkably brighter and happier.

.

Made some adjustments to vincebell.com yesterday and this morning.  Lyle Lovett is covering one of Vince’s songs on his new albums (the one that has Farmer Brown/Chicken Reel on it), and I got to make announcements about that and Vince’s upcoming benefit appearance.

.

Waiting on word about work.  Never a good period in itself, but certainly having the potential for good times.  Happy Tuesday is only a few hours off.

Rolling again

Heading east tomorrow morning.  Purpose: accumulating cash for paying bills.  The rain is past and blue skies prevail and should for a week.

.

Just a little indication of what has been happening here in my spare time.  (I guess you can say I’m catching the Halloween spirit as it draws neigh.)

Rain, rain

Posted on Saturday, October 10th, 2009 at 1:31 pm

Well, at the golf course again, and the lack of shingles definitely made its mark yesterday as a major storm-front passed through in the wee hours of the morning.

.

It started with the day before, putting aside a day of Photoshop touchup and climbing up on the roof to tack down the dislodged felt paper that the brisk southerly winds before the front had torn loose.  I corrected some of the chronic problems that had plagued the previous rains.

.

But the storm itself ripped up more of the felt paper (from the other direction) after I had finished up, and there was some major leakage.  Buckets, rags, towels, coolers, mops, and brooms all came into play during the downpour on insufficient sleep and a strained ankel tendon from the roof work prior.

.

So after the storm, it was cleaning up as much as possible, including laundry of the rags and towels.  I ended the day feeling less than optimum.

This morning, still with insufficient sleep, I climbed up on the roof and restapled the felt paper that the storm had dislodged, at least until the stapler jammed.  I managed to correct, at least superficially, all the big leaks.  It probably won’t survive another big blow, but it should withstand a sprinkle.

.

I just wish that I could get some sleep now.  I have other priorities with which to deal.

Aches, pains, stiff muscles

The more one hurts after a party, the better the party was.  I’m hurting, so I’m happy.

.

It was a great party despite the rain Saturday.  (Friday’s rain died in its tracks before reaching me, so it was a show with no blow.)

.

I played a lot of music.  I ate a lot of good food.  I laughed a lot.  It was a very enjoyable party.  And I’m feeling it.

The Big Ones at Night

Posted on Thursday, October 1st, 2009 at 8:44 pm

It’s pretty amazing stuff, watching a large thunderstorm cell two and a half counties  (seventy, eighty miles) away.  Awesome storm, and it seems to be headed in this direction, though Austin and change lies between it and me.

.

It’s pretty ironic, since I spent all day yesterday creating a sky in Voyager and Photoshop on a long term project.  The real ones are more impressive, but you get to keep the created one.  Still… awesome is.

.

And in an hour or two, I’ll have some rather anxious dogs on my hands.  They can sense it coming.

Party weekend

Posted on Thursday, October 1st, 2009 at 8:01 am

It will be a weekend of music, and I expect sore finger pads by Sunday.  (I haven’t played in a few weeks.)  I’m heading over a day early to help with preparations.  It should be fun.

.

Not sure who is going to be there as backup, but I’m sure that there will be plenty of people playing.  The only real questions are whether or not I’ll be leading or following most of the time, and how much it will rain this weekend (forecast is not optimistic).

.

I haven’t packed yet, but I’m in no hurry getting on the road.
