Apricots

Posted on Saturday, May 29th, 2010 at 6:21 am

The apricot tree is bearing ripe fruit, and I’m up on a ladder picking bag after bag.  Sweaty business in the summer heat that is embracing Texas.  The dehydrator will be running overtime this weekend.

HDRE – High Dynamic Range Environment  -> Environmental lighting effects

A small version of my newest desktop.  Well, close to it.  I made a few minor changes in the final.  The sky bike is mine, from a couple of years ago.  I like the reflections on the body.

The texture needs to be higher res, but I like it.  I’ll have to render the texture larger (ArtMatic) and give it a second run in a desktop size.

Summer

Posted on Saturday, May 15th, 2010 at 2:30 pm

Summer is off to an erratic start this year, laying down laying down a string of high’s in the 90’s, followed by a rainy spell and cooler temps.  I must say, the two inches of rain in 24 hours was a blessing after a full month without rainfall.  Saves a lot of effort watering.

A week away from the annual crawfish boil.  I’ll be one of the three cooks boiling up some 400 pounds of fresh ‘dads.  My my…..  Looking forward to it.  “Oh dat crawfish, oh dat crawfish.  If I cud ony git my wish, it wud be fo’ mo’ uv dat crawfish…….”

My post-departure from the Poser forums has been pretty quiet, compared to pre-departure.  But I left my mark in doing so.  A few people listened to me, enough that what I said will eventually come to light.  Most didn’t because they didn’t want to hear what I was saying, the proverbial ostriches burying their heads in the sand.  (Yes, I know the flightless birds are not hiding, rather grubbing for food, but the metaphor stands.)  That is their problem, not mine.  I’m glad to be away from the virtual land of presumed entitlement.  The community has changed so much in the last ten years, it no longer bears any resemblance to what attracted me to it back in the 90’s.  I will miss some people, but most of those whom I called friends have already departed in disgust.  I was just a little thicker skinned than most and took longer to throw in the towel.

I have Townes Van Zandt’s Lovers’ Lulaby down pat.  Time to start learning a new tune.

I don’t normally ride coattails when it comes to movies or TV visual FX.  I know fan fiction is a big thing, but I find it tends to belong to those without much drive of imagination.  But every now and then, I’ll do a quick model when I see people trying to model something and not even getting close.

This is a work render.  It still needs dynamic hair and a few details, and a little adjustment of the shader and volumetrics.  But it’s a start.
