It was a good idea to use QuickTime to bring the files together, but on conversion for the DVD authoring, the audio was lost on the subsequent files pasted onto the first MPEG. So I’m having to convert file by file, then join.
.
And artifacts haves discouraged me from placing chapters in the video. At least that was quickly tested on the first short attempt.
.
3 G of conversion to go, about a gig an hour, and I’m ready to burn. Good to get it all done in one stretch, even if the process went astray a little bit. I like the product.

Lots of number crunching going on in the laptop as I type. MPEG2 video with AC3 audio embedded being demuxed, the audio converted to MP2 stereo, then remuxed with the video. Once everything is in a universally usable format for DVD authoring, I get to edit the remuxed video and mark for chaptering when I author the DVD’s. Joy, joy.
.
The noted part is the video is of a departed friend performing down in Galveston at the Old Quarter with a number of other friends. So the effort is very much worth while to me.
.
Well, at this point, it really isn’t the effort, it’s the patience and perseverance of crunching 2G video files, one after another, without wandering off and getting involved in something else too time consuming. Moments of skilled work spaced with long periods of thumb twiddling (which doesn’t use too many processor resources that might slow down the process). It will get more intense later when editing, but for now, I’m glad that I have MPEG2 Works 4 Advanced. I’m also glad that I know the developer of the app. It makes jumping into this stuff a lot easier.
.
Something to do while I sit here north of Bryan, watching the wind blow by this little patch of foliage, while the owners go off to Mardi Gras. The dogs are currently snoozing.

Well, we’ve seen our last freezing night for a week, if NWS is close to correct, and it looks like it has a good chance of being correct. 70’s in the day, 50’s at night for the week. Can’t argue with that, after the arctic cold snap that was the first half of February. Sigh, short sleeve weather. Where have you been?
.
Not particularly inspired the last few weeks. I probably won’t send out Valentine’s cards this year. Fighting off something respiratory, one of those “before it gets a foothold” things, recurring, but not bad enough to worry it. I usually win those. Just haven’t been outside for extended periods lately.
.
Maybe the weather will inspire me. Maybe it will just bring work.

I hate snow. I have no use for it. It mucks up everything. People in mid to southern Texas have no idea how to drive in it. And it’s cold. A total waste of water. I don’t even like virtual snow.
.
And there is a layer of it on the ground from last night. Hopefully it will melt off by early afternoon so I can drive into Austin.
.
Did I mention that I hate the stuff?

The dewpoint this morning was 6°F, something unheard of in this part of Texas. But then temperatures below 20°F are darn rare.
.
Poor humidifier is working overtime trying to raise the humidity in the house to 20%. The problem is that all the moisture is condensing on the window panes, unable to remain in the air. It’s hard to pet the dogs and cats without getting shocked. And working on the laptop is begging for bright sparks.
