Able and fable

Ne’er sorry rimes

Hickory, dickory, doc,

Three mice ran up the clock.

The clock struck one,

The other two escaped with only minor injuries and settled out of court.

Hickory….  dickory….  docket.

(A rime (obs) is the act of legally setting things up for taking for oneself.)

Arf Arf, pant pant

Definitely dog days.  Highs around 102°F most every day, still in the 90’s after 10 PM.  Dreadful heat sapping energy left and right.  As soon as the sprinkler stops spraying water,  the ground dries up and the grass curls.  An impossible task to keep the place green.

The traveling sprinkler sprang a leak in the casing, and I can’t find the second one (no longer functional) for parts.  Saw it a week or so ago, but now it’s nowhere to be found.  Hmmmm.

Well, only seven or eight more weeks of this before autumn.

Dog days

Was a makeup day, getting chores that had been piling up because of another round of kidney stones early in the week.  There was also backed up cooking, but there are ample leftovers of jambalaya and sausage gravy for my efforts.

I’m tired of the stones, they don’t particularly hurt, sore but not that painful, but the constant demand on the body for healing is sure a drain on energy and focus.  Stuck in the mud syndrome, and the mid-summer weather isn’t exactly helping.

Also a little bummed that Connie Gatling and David Hoffpauir have performed their last local gig and are heading to points north of Texas.  I will miss hearing them perform.

Another R&R

Back from music school, letting my body catch up.  Had to go get car tags, get a few things out of storage, etc, so I timed it to coincide with the jamming.  And it was fun, and some of the tunes were very good.  An enjoyable turnaround.

Tonight is another party, for a birthday, and I’ll probably be playing there too.  I am getting an opportunity to toughen up my guitar pads.  I’m up to three and a half hours of available playing time on a fresh set, so it could be worse.  I might be good for two tonight.

In a couple of days, I’ll be holding down the fort solo, with plenty of design work thrown into the schedule.  I won’t have much time to party.

Well, I’m in my first major party R&R since the new year. Sad that it should be at the halfway point in the year.
And also of note that it was a pool party, and my feet was the only part of me that got in the pool. Not sure why, but I just wasn’t in a water frame of mind.
My guitar pads probably took the hardest beating, not being used to playing hours of music. But it was fun playing unplugged indoors while the plugged bands played outside. I got to play and sing with a number of friends, and it was definitely a treat to do so.
It was definitely a fun party. It’s good to be back.

Back up to speed, sort of

Well, all my plaguing health issues have cleared up, finally. After three months of fever and a subsequent month of passing kidney stones (no doubt a product of one of the illnesses), I’m a bit on the weak side. It’s tough climbing out from a pit like that. I am feeling good, but I have yet to reclaimed my stamina. It doesn’t help that it’s a hot and taxing summer.
And I also got caught up with finances, at least as far as pressing issues, such as being late on storage bills. It was no small piece of change. And some expected income fell through. So it is a great relief to get that monkey off my back. However, it’s not over, as I have a sizable group of bills coming up in July and mainly August (such as web hosting, auto insurance, etc). But at least I’m back to black for the moment.
I have decided to sell off a lot of the things in storage and relocate the contents in the fall, when the weather is cooler. It will make life considerably easier to drop the storage expense. At this point, it’s not as important as it was in the past.
Party tomorrow (July 3rd). Mashed my finger (55 pound puppy jerked and caught my finger between the collar and the leash clasp). Hopefully, I’ll be able to play guitar without constantly dropping picks. This is my second time to play guitar since getting well, which is the second time since February. (I got play at Music School in Bryan last week, after a four month absence. That was fun……) I hopeful that I’ll be capable of playing.
I hope that I won’t be having gaps like this one in the blog. It’s been pretty busy and consuming. Had enough of that for the time being.
