Cat Pot Holder

This is one of those items that I wish I had made.

Well, I have recovered most of the files I lost.  It was a lot of logistics and knowing where to go to find stuff in some cases, but I have recovered the vast majority (98%) of the files I lost to the freak accident.  And I grabbed a bunch more while I was at it.  This 30M wifi connection is great for downloading stuff quickly.  It would have taken much longer without it.

So it’s done, and I can move on.  But it’s afternoon and the heat has returned after a few cloudy cooler days.  So I’m sitting back and taking it easy.  Need to make a store run.

Lost Downloads

Posted on Tuesday, August 27th, 2013 at 10:05 pm

Had a weird event, the vanishing of a folder with over two gigs of 3D content that I had downloaded online for the last several weeks.  I had cleaned up a lot of archives, getting rid of unneeded formats, etc.  I had it ready to transfer over to an external drive, and then suddenly it wasn’t there.

All I can figure is that it inadvertently gotten gang selected with items destined for the trash, then got dumped.  Unfortunately, I downloaded some files since it disappeared.  So I may have overwritten a few of the files.  I’m running data recovery, and most of the items are zipped.  But there are some loose folders with textures, and I may need to go after them again.  I’m hoping for good luck as the recovery scan hits the home stretch.

Give me shelter – SQUAWK!

Posted on Sunday, August 25th, 2013 at 7:45 am

Been helping Doug make a new home for his parrots.  12 X 18 standing cover, made of 4X4, 2X6, and 2X4, with a metal roof.  The structure is there, the metal roof goes on today.  The work days tend to be short because of the August heat.

After three days of being online, the new freebie has had 31 downloads.  Do I know how to undersell or what?  Not worried about it, as it is not posted in the mainstream locations.  I haven’t given up my druthers about where to post.

Quadbot, in modo.

In Bryan, moving and moving sheet metal, and wearing out my fingertips at Music School.  It’s been awhile.

Stayed a couple of days at Lake Somerville at Welsh Park again.  Some interesting cloud images.  Lots of impressions.

About to release my first Poser freebie in four and a half years.  I’m in no hurry.

Bar Stool

Posted on Friday, August 16th, 2013 at 7:18 pm

Modeled a bar stool this morning.  It went rather well, until I exported it into Poser and tried to create materials for it from scratch.  Argh!  I’ve forgotten all my Poser material tricks.  They’ve been replace by modo tricks (which I like much better).  Oh well…..

Hanging out in Brenham, the home of Blue Bell ice cream, for the short run.  Internet connection is 30M.  I like it.

Got medication for another 90 days, with refills, before I left Austin.  Trying out a new one that may be more than just maintenance.  It may actually reduce my need for the meds, which would be a blessing.

Dawn has been out for four days, and I’ve been able to work on the figure for about half a day. The first step is import Dawn from Poser into modo and adjust the shaders for future reference.  Here’s a zeroed Dawn, in default mode upon import, and with the shaders adjusted.

I’ll be moving around the next few days, so I probably won’t get much chance to work on the figure for a while.  I have to go into Austin this evening to get my meds refilled.

Burning ban

Posted on Wednesday, August 7th, 2013 at 11:29 pm

I ignored the burning ban in progress and burned 25 backup DVDs today.  It got to 105°F this afternoon, according to my weather menu.  A busy day indoors, and I got it finished before bedtime, along with a bunch of other stuff.

I even had some time to try out some new photo manipulation software (as if I needed more).

Two things

“Only two things that money can’t buy,
That’s true love & homegrown tomatoes.”  Guy Clark

Well, been bouncing from house to house in the Elgin compound, sitting for people who are out of town.  Back at the pool after a couple of days at cowgirl’s.  It’s air conditioning during triple digit weather.  I can’t complain, the duties are light, the internet is familiar.

I need to burn DVD’s, stuff like that.  Looks like I’ll get the chance to do so.  A trip to storage in the morning.
