Magnetic rings

Throughout the latter half of the twentieth century, ferric rings have played a larger role than most people realize.  They were the structure for the first computer memory.  They play a role in impedance balancing in power supplies.  They have been use for transformer cores.  Their uses are many, their composition fine tuned, and they go largely unseen.

They resemble a torus, but it would be very difficult to make one from a torus.  It is considerably easier to lathe one.  Start with a cube with rounded corners, copy a cross section loop, place it properly in relation to zero axis, and create a radial array from it.  It ends up with the trademark flat edges and rounded corners so not to kink the wire.

My first Halloween in Brenham tomorrow.  I expect to turn off the lights up front to discourage visitors.  It is forecasted to be rainy today, tonight, and tomorrow, and turning cold tomorrow night.  So that should hamper trick or treat.

I got up early this morning to get inside before the thunderstorms arrived.  I could use another couple of hours of snoozing.  But light is here, so not going to try unless it’s inside in the chair.

It’s been a rather slow week, as my blood pressure has been constantly above normal.  The diastolic hasn’t been too bad, less than ten points above or in normal range.  But the systolic has been from thirty to sixty points above what it should be.  And that is not good for the patch.  So I’ve been taking it easy, watching movies, etc.

At that point again

Looks like I just can’t help myself when it comes to online bullies.  I have exited the Poserverse once again.  But I think it will have an effect.  The forum is not online today, a most notable coincidence.  Pardon me if I’m a bit cryptic, just one of those things.  I have just encountered too many overly critical personalities this year.

Got a voice mail from the court appointed attorney for Helen’s estate.  Didn’t return it.  I don’t want any more of that either, speaking of overly critical personalities.

There was a definite gully washer here through the night.  From what I can tell in the darkness outside, the creek out back is definitely up and flowing.  But I can’t tell how far it encroached into the yard.  Dawn is just starting to peak, so it will be a few minutes before I can see how things fared without wandering out in the rain.

I did have to put down a pot and towels for the leaking sky light to make sure the entertainment center didn’t get ruined.  I won’t be watching TV for a number of hours to let everything completely dry out.

Good news is that I won’t have to water plants.

A different approach using the same tools, with one addition.

Another party that requires recovery time.  Lots of good food, no shortages.  Music was plentiful and sweet to the ears.  Everything needed to wear me out, fingers, vocal cords, gut, and muscles.  Good time, and it was good seeing everyone.  Well worth the effort.
