I will be spending Thanksgiving house sitting in Austin.  I start packing tonight.  It’s a six day run, so I won’t be packing heavy.  No music stuff, minimal clothes, only one external hard drive.  A light run.  I’ve eaten most of the perishables here, so very little food to go.

Two things to get in Austin, Amy’s White Chocolate ice cream and Brach’s Milk Maid caramels.  Shopping will be light until December. (I return on the first of the month and will need to stock up.)  I may eat out a bit in Austin.

November has been a bit odd.  Not a lot got done.  It just wasn’t a shining month.  Maybe it was the arrival of cold weather.  Not a lot clicking.  The muses just weren’t with me.  I did manage to get Myka to sit in my lap and wait for pets in the morning to go outside.  Beats getting impatiently bitten.  And I replaced the lock on the front door, so now I have a key to the house and can lock it.  But mostly it’s been numb with lots of candy (after Halloween sale).

Cool spell

Got to 32°F last night.  First freeze of autumn.  Split pea soup (chili, onion, garlic powder, cayenne, and basil) tided me through the snap.  Myka even ate some.

Myka climbs down trees the proper way, hind feet first.  No more ladders when she gets on the roof.  She also got her first non-surgical scar this week, over her left eye.  Might be a cat or a rodent.  I didn’t hear any caterwauling, so I’m leaning towards rodent.  She’s starting to become the keeper of the yard.  And she is over her surgery.  The cold doesn’t bother her, but she likes cocooning in a blanket when she sleeps.

Had a major DVD burning session.  Close to 50 in all.  The first day, I had 16X writes.  On the second and third days (mop up), 4X was the max I could get.  Strange, same discs, same settings, nothing obvious.  But it’s done.  I can put the player away for now.

Life rolls on in winter.  I hope I can get through this one with grace.

Rainy Day Days

Posted on Friday, November 7th, 2014 at 10:27 am

Well, it rained for 34 hours on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, but it only dropped 2.25 inches.  There were no cloud bursts, just a large mass of rain clouds off of the Pacific with no real disturbing formations to promote gully washers.  Myka was not impressed at having to stay inside all day.  I’m not impressed at having to climatize for winter.

The days are passing, but not a lot that is fruitful.  Mulling ideas over in my head, but nothing in pixels yet.  Watching movies to pass the time while it cooks.

Everything important is good.  The rest I can handle.

It reached 40°F this morning, and Myka has been enjoying it to no end, running at full rev since she went out at 7AM CST.  (The shift to standard time caught me by surprise this morning, but I only had my watch and microwave to change, as all else is autoset.) She had a full day outside yesterday and was out like a light last night.  She is a happy kitty, and I’m not being attacked.  Win/win.

I guess I’m ready for winter.  Things are pretty much settled in.

Got my All Hallows Day morning clearance candy, three bags, mostly Hershey’s Milk Chocolate and Reese’s variety.  It’s been a while since I had candy in the house.  Cupboards are stocked as well.  Plenty to eat and plenty left on the card.

Still watching movies.
