Farewell to yet another month.

Posted on Saturday, January 31st, 2015 at 2:08 am

This is the 770th month to which I have bid farewell, whether I was cognizant of doing so or not.  It was an interesting month in ways, not a big social month, but things got done.  The kitchen, work, finances, a new song, repairs, and of course new Myka scratches.  It didn’t pass as quickly as some months, nor as slowly as others.  But it was a move in the right direction.

.

Time to move on.  I am hoping that February passes quickly.  I don’t want winter to drag on.

Sore

Posted on Friday, January 30th, 2015 at 9:53 am

Came back from Bryan sore and creaky, but happy.  Music school was fun.  Lots of good tunes.  Lots of song leaders, so I got to play percussion a bunch and saved my pads from being part of the list of painful body parts.

.

Made it back in the late morning and proceeded to nap off and on for about six hours in the recliner.  Still gobbling ibuprofen this morning, but it’s getting better, now just mainly my back.  My hips, thighs, and knees are mostly quieted from the comfy rest.

.

Got Myka new mice, the good fuzzy ones from Petco.  She likes the rattles inside and the fuzzy texture, keeps her busy.

Bryan

Posted on Wednesday, January 28th, 2015 at 4:27 pm

I’ve landed in Bryan.  A new Airport wifi, but the password is the same as the old wifi, so I had no problem connecting without assistance.

.

80°F today.  So nice.  Down to T-shirt and jeans. Poor Myka in the house, missing this wonderful afternoon.

.

Looking forward to the music tonight.

Mousssse

Posted on Wednesday, January 28th, 2015 at 12:15 am

I took the mouse on a stick outside today for Myka to chase.  I stopped and fixed the fraying string, which took a few minutes.  She immediately broke the string and carried the mouse under the house, never to be seen again.  I had to restring the pole with the last mouse in the pack.  I need to go get more mice.

.

Heading to Bryan tomorrow for music school.

Tongue in hot soup

Posted on Sunday, January 25th, 2015 at 12:40 am

Burned my tongue early this evening, testing the chicken vegetable soup.  It seemed like I had given the spoonful enough time to cool, but squash holds its heat.  Some ibuprofen and a two hour nap took care of most of the problem.  I can even eat warm soup now without discomfort.  The tongue heals quickly.  I’ll live.

.

But hey, the soup is both good and nutritious.

.

Warming spell has already started.  Slowly, but 70’s on the way.  My kind of winter.  A cool spell every now and then, to keep down the bugs.  I am sure Myka will love it.

Shoppin’

Seeds

Posted on Thursday, January 22nd, 2015 at 11:57 pm

Seeds were sewn.  Mail room duty.  At least the rain stopped.

.

Myka is not a good indoor foul weather cat.

.

It will start warming up next week.

Burn

Posted on Tuesday, January 20th, 2015 at 2:23 pm

Burned DVD’s yesterday, clearing a little drive space.  I have a few more to do, but I’m currently doing laundry.  I got 1X3 labels for jewel case naming today, as I ran out yesterday.

.

I also found Pounce, which makes up for Myka’s Advantage treatment this morning.  She did not appreciate the wet neck, but she did enjoy the Pounce.  I could tell that she was very happy eating them.  It’s been several months since I was able to find them last.  She was bouncy and excited.  But she still refuses to say, “Sir, put the tuna on the floor and slowly back away, and no one gets hurt.”

.

It has hit 70°F or better three days in a row.  The doors have been wide open.  Ahhhh.  Too bad it’s going away.  It’s why I’m doing laundry, so I can have my best winter layering items ready for use.

New server

Posted on Sunday, January 18th, 2015 at 9:21 am

fringewood.com is on a new server today.  It was migrated from Las Vegas to Hawthorne, CA, and everything seems to be intact.  It was down for a handful of hours, no site, no email, waiting for DNS to update, but I slept through most of that.  The new server is screaming fast.  The Poser download page loaded completely before I could scroll down.  I’ve never seen that before.  So, all for the good.

.

The pie has been cut….  *nom nom nom*

.

Upper 60’s for afternoon highs.  Several more days of relief before the next dip in temperature.  I shed a layer to celebrate.

Pi

Posted on Friday, January 16th, 2015 at 6:26 pm

*nom nom nom nom*  Coconut pudding with whipped cream (the pie hasn’t been cut yet, eating the leftover ingredients first).  Can’t buy this stuff in a store.  Pizza too, though it was split into a double semicircle, as the crust was wider than the oven.  So it has been a celebration of Π today, though a complete circumference has not been seen yet (at least in digestible form).  Π are round!

.

Got the hood latches on, same style hasp latch as seen on hand held tool boxes.  They are on the front edge of the hood, not to be seen from the drivers seat.  The locks are paper rings (think loose leaf).  Wondering if it will pass inspection.  But it holds the hood very well.

.

I have the weekend off.  It will be in the 60’s in the afternoons.

.

Myka is not concerned with any of this.

Winter trudge

Posted on Wednesday, January 14th, 2015 at 12:06 am

Getting through winter.  Bleech!

.

Sunday noon was a run to the store, heavy drizzle, I turned on the headlights like everyone else.  I forgot to turn them off when I got home, being daylight.  Battery drained completely.  Put the charger on it and got it back up to snuff, but now the hood will not latch.  I tried to adjust the latch, no go.  So now I’m thinking exterior rubber hood latches.  No one has a replacement, haven’t checked the junk yards.  So now something else has to hold down the hood beside the safety latch.

.

Still no coconut cream pie.  Four delays already.  Frozen eggs, vanishing Saran Wrap, yadda yadda yadda.  The pie gets made tomorrow

.

Did some stuff for Vince, January sale.

.

Lots of little details get me through the day by day.

xfrog again

Posted on Sunday, January 11th, 2015 at 12:07 am

Xfrog had another sample shift, 33 more plant models in OBJ and LXL presets for modo. 5G of downloading on a slow server.  That puts it close to 150 plants total.

.

Been pretty wet the last couple of days.  Nothing really heavy, but often enough to keep it soggy outside.  Hanging in the 30’s for the most part.  Hunkering down, like most folks.

.

Finally got most of the time sensitive stuff eaten.  It is nice to have the kitchen fluffed out, the full options.  Coconut cream pie coming up.  I had to bump it a couple of times, but the expiration dates are forgiving. Made cinnamon rolls this morning.  They’re all gone, and I feel the sugar buzz.

.

Finished the Dr Who marathon this evening.  Back to movies.

Early year

Posted on Wednesday, January 7th, 2015 at 2:45 pm

It’s been a mixed lot since New Year’s. After the shopping spree, I have been cooking, and I had to stop or face too many leftovers. Beef stew was the big item (half gone), though there have been Mexican rice and black bean and cheese burritos and other tidbits.

.

Worked on Vince’s site, setting up a sale. That was a lot of hand coding and making alterations at PayPal.

.

Myka refused to climb down from the roof this morning. I got the ladder, coaxed her into the tree and started her climbing down, back feet first. I get the feeling that she had an accident that shook her confidence. Once I got her moving down, no problem, but it’s getting into position to climb down where she freezes up.

.

More Dr. Who, season 15.  “Stay here.” perplexed Leela so much.

.

Not much else going on, with the ping pong weather.  Layers on, layers off, layers on…..  I want out of these clothes!

Belch!

Posted on Thursday, January 1st, 2015 at 7:29 pm

Evening of the first.  Healthy serving of peas, three pieces of cornbread, a pastrami and Jarlsberg on honey wheat, and a slice of New York cheesecake have passed my palette today, so I should brimming with luck.  I should be able to pick up and move Myka and get a big purr in return.  Okay, okay, I ain’t stupid.

.

Watching season 14, episodes 13 – 16 of Dr. Who (original), The Face of Evil, where Louis Jameson joined Tom Baker as Leela .  My favorite duo of the whole Whovian works.

Music and savage breasts.

Posted on Thursday, January 1st, 2015 at 12:05 pm

William Congreve, in The Mourning Bride, 1697  Act 1, Scene 1, opening line, spoken by the character Almeria.

.

Music has charms to sooth a savage breast, to soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak.

.

This has been misquoted more times than just about any other phrase in English language history.  (Music soothes the savage beast.)  In my experience, savage beasts run from most music, especially cats when I play my 12 string, sort of a contra-pied piper.  And birds which gather to listen to the competition are hardly savage.

.

But what is a savage breast?  In the time it was written, it meant a raging heart or tortured soul.  But today, with mass exploitation of nudity in the media and culture, the meaning is surely much different.  A stereotyped savage breast today would surely be tattooed and pierced.

.

Its oxymoron in the literal state is indeed a seed of comedy.  “Beware the savage breast!” is sure to draw at least a snicker from a crowd.  It immediate brings to mind a classic breast with a face, one which is wild and angry, bearing sharp crooked teeth and scraggly facial hair, attempting to bite anything that comes within the ring of personal space.  Following with “A hard time getting to first base” is a sure chuckle.

.

Alas, the misquote is better known than the original.  It crops up in all sorts of movies, most of which are poorly written, with no budget for verifying quotes.  Most common is when a musician distracts a raging beast in mortal combat with the movies heroic male lead, turning the tables on what seemed sure death for the hero.  Very cheesy.

.

But hey, be careful.  You can never tell when a breast might be savage.  So never slide a hand down into a bra without at least peeking first.  Or at least play some music.
