Who’ll stop the rain?

Wet, wet, and more wet.  Memorial Day weekend looks soggy.  Ugh.

Playing with HDR Light Studio 5.

Back again

Got back to the man cave this morning, and Myka was very pleased to have me back to supervise her entrance and exit from the house.

Wet is the key word.  There has been some intense rainstorms in the last week.  In fact, I woke this morning to a heavy rain on the roof.  I avoided  Texas 50 and Texas 6 out of concern for flooding.  I went out Texas 21 to Caldwell and got hammered with some hydroplaning on the road (minor, not enough to pull over).  But the run down Texas 36 was rain free, though the path did cost me a little extra gasoline.  I have seen a lot of swollen creeks and soggy fields.  I never consider that as bad when heading into summer.

Nice to have my recliner back.  Took a nice long nap after gobbling down a plate of shrimp poppers.

Good Day, Sunshine

It’s not raining today.  Not that I’m complaining about any rain with the coming of summer.  Here at Lake Turmoil in Bryan, feeding birds and medicating dogs, listening to Highway 6 roll in both directions.

It’s about to turn summer, temps rising into the upper 80’s.

6 string fingers

Giving up 12 string fingers is not an easy thing to do.  Got the Yamaha FS 720S DSR, which arrived shortly after 10:30 AM, in tune and shaken down.  I’m getting a quick feel by playing songs that I used to break in the Yammer Hammer.  Don’t Think Twice, Some Day Soon, etc.  I’m also getting a feel for new ones.  Waiting Round to Die, Deep River Blues, etc.

It’s not the same as the Meenie, but it’s a familiar feeling from a loooong time ago.  I’ll make it manage.

The Takamine popped its bridge last Friday, not a complete separation, but a distinct crack and detune.  It has been retired.  I have reached for it a couple dozen times in the last four days.  I miss it.  Vince and Sarah are sending me a Yamaha 6 string that Vince got for a trip, only been played three times.  It should be here tomorrow.

Like a fool, I went to Craig’s List and found a Meenie clone for $350, barely been played, in San Marcos.  I can’t justify the $350 at this point.  Dumb thing to do.

I have been hunting distractions all weekend and this week.  Nothing quite replaces the void.  One of the distractions in modo.

Two weeks later

Just back from Bryan, Music School, light shopping for things not found locally.  Good time, but taxing.  Highway 50 through the Brazos Valley was flooded, creeks not even visible, a severe storm that split Brenham and Bryan, but touched neither.  The soil will soak it up.  Good for the crops.

The last couple of weeks have been pretty low key.  There have been highlights, like the party next door, at which I gained groupies.  But by and large, it’s just been the daily routine with lots of naps.   There was the marinaded pork loin, which was irresistible.  The new mini charcoal pit is fun, some smoky food for a change.  The freezer is packed.

Lots of little things, nothing major, just trying not to aggravate the hernia is the big thing.  A period of minimal exertion.  A fair bit of watching the ISS, movies, etc.  Time in the recliner ungirdled, which why there are so many naps.

New ice cube trays.  Now it’s 4 instead of 2, and hopefully I won’t have to slightly melt the edges, floating the trays in water in the sink, to keep the ice from fracturing.  That was getting old.  Just in time for summer.
