Countdown

Posted on Monday, June 29th, 2015 at 3:22 pm

Well, I was expecting a sweaty, hectic dash in the summer swelter to get to Bryan and then back, to rearrange the office for modifications before departing for Austin.  All that evaporated.  So now all I need to do is pack and go.  There is still breaking down and packing the recliner for a storage swap with the blue one on my return.

.

So I’m getting to relax and take my time getting things in order.  I start the process tomorrow.  I’m working on getting the fridge as empty as possible before taking off.

.

Myka has been regurgitating food, went through a spell of three, then it stopped, then one more this morning.  I went out and picked her some grass, and she went after it in a flash.  I’m hoping that will take care of it.  She is energetic and showing no signs of wear, and not all is coming back up, so I’m not too worried.

.

I am looking forward to seeing the guys.  It will be a fun two weeks.

Soltice

Posted on Sunday, June 21st, 2015 at 5:38 pm

Friday was the first day the air conditioner ran.  Today is the second day.  Myka likes it.  When it exceeds 88°F inside and the humidity is above 65% (dew point > 77°F), or when the dew point is in the 80’s, it’s time for a little cooling and drying.  I understand that for many, these figures may seem a little on the high side for AC threshold, but eh, I’m heat tough.

.

It looks like some additional Stop Leak is going to hold the radiator until I have time to deal with it.  I’m going to grab a couple extra tubes for safety sake.

.

Today is solstice, the day when the days quit being longer or shorter and become shorter or longer.

Bill

Tropical Storm Bill was a wuss.  It popped up overnight before landfall, so it had very little time to form.  1.4 inches of rain.  Left the doors open during the storm, the wind not strong enough to blow in any rain.

.

Not a whole lot else has happened.  Same old same old.

90’s

Posted on Wednesday, June 10th, 2015 at 1:13 pm

Well, Texas is starting to heat up and dry out.  The 90’s are here, the 60’s are gone, the sky is blue.  Still under the fans, AC not on yet.  Sleeping until noon in spurts.  Hanging in there without issues so far.  I got a couple of new cooling towels for the season.

.

Myka is now an indoor cat.  Dixie started chasing Myka over the fence and then started waiting for her to return at the gap.  Myka opted to go to the front yard through the neighbor’s yard.  This happened three days in a row, so she is an indoor cat.  She just doesn’t realize the risk of the front yard.  Each day, she gets a little grumpier.  This morning, I got a series of steady bleeders from bites near the right elbow.  Grrr.

.

Not much going on.  Not a lot of shopping, as I have lots to eat in the freezer.  Can’t complain about food other than the temperature of the kitchen when I feel like cooking.  But I can either eat in the cool part of the day or sleep.  So lots of sandwiches.  The chicken pene alfredo was quite good.

.

My fingers are still tender from the Maha, but they are getting better.

June

Posted on Monday, June 1st, 2015 at 7:56 pm

Well, made it into June without any sustained 90’s.  Never look a mild May in the mouth, even if it is a wet one.

.

Lake Travis has gone from 58 feet below flood stage to less than 15 feet below, the bear’s share of that in the last two weeks.  I had just about given up hope on its return.  Been wet here too, but not that wet.

.

My pads are adapting slowly to the Maha.  The Meenie clone is gone, offer withdrawn.  Temptation removed.  Learning some Zevon.

.

Sort of a lull during the rain and now it’s just sort of hard believing it’s going to dry out.  Maybe I can close the back screen door fully one day soon.
