Eastward

Posted on Monday, February 29th, 2016 at 5:36 am

I’m not fully recovered from the food poisoning, the gut is still tender in places.  But I am eating small amounts and heading in the right direction.  It will be nice when I get it all flushed from the system.  Then I’ll be able to sleep for longer periods of time.  It will help to get back to a full kitchen where I can pick and choose the foods I eat.

.

I’ve done my plumbing duties here.  I cured the stench from the drain and stopped the tub leak.  So I’m leaving Granny’s in better shape than I found it.

.

Today is the day I roll back east.  Not much left to pack, just trying to make sure that I don’t leave anything behind.  I wonder how Myka will react to my return.  I know Speedo will miss me.  She has gotten quite attached to me during my stay here.  But I am anxious to see my own monster again.

12 hours

Posted on Friday, February 26th, 2016 at 10:15 am

I just through 12 hours of food poisoning, bad mozzarella cheese for an early lunch before going to Morelia’s.  Took 36 hours to kick in, 12 hours to do its damage.  My digestive tract is empty, I’m dehydrated, and I get to clean the floor, which I was incapable of doing last night.  As soon as I rolled over from lying on my right to my left arm, I had ten seconds to get out of bed.  There was no way to get to the bathroom in time.  It’s been a while since I was this sick.  January was relentless and painful and persisting, but it wasn’t this bad.

.

Bleeech. Sick as a dog.

.

At least it’s all out of my system now.  Now to recover my strength and start cleaning.

Austin run

Heading into Austin today to upgrade Lyse’s laptop online.  6.2G.  Fun fun fun.  I got the essential folders (37G) backed up on 502 last night.  So it will take about an hour to download if I get a steady 2M/s.  Hopefully, being Apple, it might be faster.  It would take ten hours here at best speed, probably closer to twenty, and doing it without a loss of connection…

.

Went Morelia’s last night.  The new place is definitely gaudier than the old one, but the food is just as good as it ever was.  The Enchiladas del Rio were divine.  Waiting to go for a couple of weeks paid off with company, four of us guys who hadn’t been to the new location yet.  It was fun and very yummy.

.

Starting to get oriented for the return to Brenham.  Three days to go, so I’ll have two days of just hanging around before packing up and rolling.  Got lots to do when I get back.

One week to go

Posted on Sunday, February 21st, 2016 at 12:27 pm

One week left before I head back east.

.

I performed at Liberty Tree Tavern on Friday night (the former Quoffer’s), a set of five songs.  I was expecting a few more, so my energy curve was too subtle, and I finished with Wagon Wheel.  Got to see old friends and had a good time.

.

One negative thing about Granny’s is how quickly bread will mold.  I lost 3/4 of a loaf.  Bleeh.

.

Speedo has really taking a liking to me, wanting pets all the time, anxious to see me, hanging out with me in Granny’s.  She’s just always so happy to see me.

.

I could stay a few extra days, but I have things to do in Brenham, and some prep needs to be done for the water heater, a good sweeping under the bed, and more.  So best if the place is vacant a few days before Richard and Edith arrive.

Idyl

Been sleeping a lot the last couple of days.  Been intending on starting the DVD burn, but the ambition has just been lacking.  I’ve got two weeks left being here, so I’m in no big hurry and feel no guilt.

.

I’ve got plenty of food, so I won’t have to run into town for five or six days at a minimum.  Then again, there is Morelia’s that I have been putting off.

.

The weather has been delightful, in the 70’s every day, windows open, a good time to be out in the country.  It has been a delightful February thus far.

Three part syncopated dreaming

Posted on Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 at 6:51 am

It bugs me to no end when I dream a song that I love and that I’ll never be able to perform, much less remember.  It had three part syncopated harmonies, two male and a female, a bright, upbeat, happy song about sunshine and moonshine, with lots of intricate overlapping interplay.  And the world will never know it.  *Sigh*

.

Granny’s doesn’t hold its heat very well.  It lost about 10° overnight, and it wasn’t close to freezing.  Fortunately, the trend is a warming one for the coming week.  At least the bed is warm, as long as I keep my breath warm.  It’s just getting out of bed that’s the rub.

.

Except for a dog barking off in the distance, it is a very quiet morning.  What a way to start my first morning in Elgin.

.

I must have been tired last night, cause I couldn’t stay awake for SAA.  I conked out about 10 pm.  I slept a full eight hours.

.

Morelia’s is on the agenda today, the new location can not be missed on the drive by, as well as a little light shopping.

Back east, back west

Posted on Saturday, February 6th, 2016 at 12:45 pm

Back in Brenham for a few days.  I spent most of the time in Austin recovering from the flu I had in January, and I am pretty much healed now.  The trachea and bronchia were the worst damages, and the repair work took time.  But I am finally back to nominal there.

.

I didn’t accomplish a whole lot in Austin, other than taking care of myself.   I got some work done, but nothing finished.  The central heating went out, but I managed with a couple of small space heaters after determining that I couldn’t fix it without risking warranty loss.  It was good being with the monsters and tootoos.

.

I will be heading out to Elgin in the next day or two. I needed a few things from here before heading there, things I didn’t need in Austin, so I returned here.  The good news is that I am already packed, and all I need to do is load the truck again and roll.
