They Call It Stormy Friday

Posted on Friday, April 29th, 2016 at 5:48 pm

Well, I went to the store and spent $1.80 from the remaining balance of $1.81, leaving a final balance of 1¢ on the card.  That has a certain ring to it, like a penny tip.  A 2L soda and 4 Ramen noodle packs (shrimp) did the card in.  It is no longer residing within my wallet.

Expecting more rain to see the month out.  Early May also looks wet.  I hope it doesn’t rain too much in May without signaling an early dry spell for summer.   SE Texas has already maxed out in April.

Myka is beginning to avoid warm places to sleep, preferring wood surfaces to padded ones, unless there is a fan blowing on her.  It’s an issue with me too.  I’ve dug out the evaporative cooling towels.  I haven’t plugged in the A/C yet.  It only warm, nothing I’d call hot yet.  But the cool weather clothes will be put away as soon as I do laundry.

Been spending the contents of the groceries card the last couple of days.  $210 gone in two shopping trips, $30 yet to be spent by Saturday evening.  Midnight Saturday, the turning of May 1, the card dies.  I want the final balance to be $0.00.  I can’t think of anything left to buy, so I’m thinking pastrami, ground tenderloin, utter extravagances.

The freezer is a solid mass.  No way I can put anything in there.  Same with the cabinets.  The fridge is the only thing that has any storage space, and I’m close to the spoilage limit, but not there.  So that is where the final purchases will be focused, expensive stuff to be eaten within the week.  My instinct is to buy a 10 pound bag of chicken leg quarters, but there is no way that I could handle that, too bulky.

It is something to go against my instincts to scrimp and save.  But it’s also not my instinct to let money go down the drain.  I’m having no moral dilemma spending it, just going against the grain of habit to go into the store and strictly whim shop, with the only restrictions being “Do I have a place to put this?” and “How easy will it be to fix in the heat of summer?”

Bureaucratic Blues

Fun with bureaucrats.  I get to start over from scratch with HHSC on the card.  I managed not to commit any crimes because of it.  But I will survive, thanks to the feds and my retirement.

But in other news, the rain continues, light and sporadic, but not threatening after the flooding.  Enough to keep the ground moist.

Nothing big going on.  I’m just hanging loose, close to the vest, waiting for the medical stuff to finalize.  Still no doctor assigned.

Wet stuff

Had between four and five inches of rain in the last 14 hours, closer to five than four.  Not far to the south and east, some places have had 12 inches or more.  I had to wait until 4 AM for the thunder to subside enough to go to sleep.  But I have not floated away.

Myka is in trouble for repeatedly biting me, five times in a week.  The worst one was Friday night.  Right now, she is banned from the office (except last night to sleep in her bed during the storm).  The bites have all happened in the office, very sudden and out of the blue.  So it’s at the point where she is not allowed in here where the bites have taken place.  She’s had a little jail time and treats have been restricted, but no physical punishment.

Still in waiting mode on the bureaucracies, all on the state levels.  I will make some calls if I don’t see any action by the end of the week.

Spent a couple of days making up for my year and a half absence at Turbosquid.

Last of the 40’s?

Posted on Thursday, April 7th, 2016 at 8:00 am

I’m hoping that this is the last of the low temperatures in the 40’s.  I don’t see any more in the 15 day forecast.  I’m about ready to dump the warm clothes and opt for warmer weather.  It’s time for winter to go hide.

Still waiting for the smoke to  clear with the bureaucracies.  It seems I’ve been enrolled in Medicare C and D.

I’ve gone a week without a store run.  I just haven’t needed anything.  My shopping list is short and future oriented.  Quite a contrast to the $350 that I spent on food last month (and the freezer definitely reflects it, and part of why I haven’t needed to go shopping.)

Past the fools

I am officially officially retireded, according to my bank.  Got my first direct deposit yesterday.  Waiting on news on the other two parts.  I will be patient and wait for the slow wheels to turn.

Nice to have a few lazy days.  I took four naps yesterday.  I did make turkey soup, and it turned out well.  But by and large, I was gloriously unproductive.  I stepped outside twice, once for mail, second to look at the neighborhood black cat that had gotten the dogs rilled.  I have a couple of projects to tackle, but I have time for it, plus a trip to Austin about photos for the Esther’s book.

The ping pong game continues, cool again after a day in the mid 80’s.

I saw no signs of practical joking yesterday.
