Bryan

Posted on Tuesday, May 31st, 2016 at 6:40 pm

Been in Bryan for 48 hours, finally settled in.  I had to wait for the bi-weekly cleaning to be finished before I set up.  So the place is clean and it’s just me and the critters.  I made the southern errand run, gas and cookies, etc, and I still need to do the western run (shorter), bank and a handful of things from HEB, probably tomorrow.  Don’t need a whole lot as there is very little storage room in the fridge and things need eating before they spoil.

.

More rain is just about to hit, as if we hadn’t had enough already.  The heavy stuff is to the south of I-10. but it will fall here nonetheless. The evening schedule will be delayed briefly.

Doug and Ellen arrived in the Bahamas this afternoon.

Tomorrow is the first.  Monthly deposits will arrive.

Splish splash

16.5 inches of rain in Brenham, 18 inches outside town.  Not an extreme amount of damage except for around the creeks east of town, mostly lowland agricultural.  Sam had some structural loses on his place.  Not as bad as Tri-Lakes, Oct 93 (26 inches in 32 hours), but similar in nature.

Myka is seeping like a log.  All the thunder and lightning took its toll on her nervous system.  She started getting jumpy after about 16 hours of it.

.

Went without internet for 14 hours.  Lots of electrical down around town, but I kept mine except for about 30 seconds when the breakers did their dance of isolating damaged branches.  It was a dead info time of depending on my dumb phone for postage stamp sized radar thumbnails @ 2¢ a pop.

Baby backs

Oven roasted a rack of pork baby back ribs and a pork tenderloin, both from the freezer.  The rain storm that meandered across the area kept temps in the low 60’s for the day, so it was a perfect day for heating up the kitchen.  That is good stuff…  They came out just right; tender, juicy, and delish!

Too much insurance

Posted on Tuesday, May 17th, 2016 at 2:38 pm

I’m having trouble finding a primary care provider because I’ve got too much insurance, something over which I had no say.  “Going postal” is an urge that keeps crossing my mind.  Instead, I’m just sighing a lot.

The Ides of May

Well, I finally got a card from UHC with a primary care provider on it, only problem is, the doctor is in Corpus Christi, over 200 miles away.  Fortunately, I have a number to call and the name of a case worker at UHC and a long list of particulars to discuss tomorrow.  The PCP will be on top of the list.

Wet days, more rain each day, it seems, 3″, 1″, etc.  It’s not flooding again, but the dogs’ paws are very muddy.

I’m very close to cutting my hair and plugging in the A/C.  It’s not particularly warm, but sleeping is impossible when it’s too humid to shed heat.

Can’t win for losing

Won a moral victory with the bureaucrats, but the financial one was a nose dive.  You can call the rank and file to the carpet for their actions, but the charts can not be challenged.

.

Lost internet for a few hours.  Fortunately, it was before bedtime, so most of it I slept through.

.

Windows are open constantly, starting a few days ago, and should last until Friday night.  Gulf breeze kicked up the dew point.  Glasses are sweating heavily.  The days of spring are numbered.

Cheesecake came out of the freezer, giving me a slight amount of breathing room.  It is still ridiculously packed.

Cool break

Posted on Wednesday, May 4th, 2016 at 9:13 pm

The last of the cool air before summer by all probability is still hanging around for a couple more nights.  Then the four months endurance run.

.

Made a dent in the fridge enough to have an occasional something from the freezer or cabinet.  Things are starting to level out to a normal routine again.  Grilled steak and sausage.  Got more charcoal (mesquite) for the little grill.

.

Still waiting on a primary care physician to be appointed.  At least I got a booklet from the insurance company with helpful channels to follow.  Well, wishfully helpful channels.  Time will tell.

.

Enough projects and chores to keep me occupied.
