Close call

Posted on Friday, September 30th, 2016 at 9:25 am

I ordered the MacBook Pro this morning, and talk about a close shave…

.

I had given up on getting the new laptop this month, as the budget margin was just too close.  But Wednesday evening, just shy of midnight, I discovered that it was on sale again at Best Buy, $200 off.  I did some quick calculations and said, I can do this.  I had 24 hours to kill.  (Twiddling thumbs, hoping the sale would last.)

.

So I waited until just after midnight this morning, after the direct deposit was placed on my account, to place the order.  However, the amount was a couple of hundred over my card’s limit.  So the verification of the card failed.  I grabbed a few hours sleep, then called the bank first thing and inquired.  About an hour later I get the return call from the bank, purchase was cleared for acceptance.

.

I went to the site and updated the credit card info (same info), and then it was accepted, the order went through with the sale price.  All is right with the world, except that I’m considerably poorer.

.

Then I go back to the product page a few minutes after the order was confirmed, and the MacBook Pro is no longer on sale.  Talk about cutting it close!  The slightest hesitation on my part would have sunk the whole sale, and I’d have been waiting for at least another month.

.

Anyway, I’ll be looking for it on Tuesday.  It requires a signature to receive, so I will be watching the tracking closely.

.

……………………….

.

Well, the transaction was paused by the security watch on the card, so Best Buy cancelled the order.  The money will be refunded to my account some time in the coming week.

.

I knew it was too good to be true.

Hopeless

Posted on Monday, September 26th, 2016 at 12:32 pm

I’ll never be able to use a terabyte of bandwidth in a month.  I have given up hope, only managing a 15% pace.  I hang my head in shame.

.

I am otherwise happy with the new connection.  It does what I ask of it.

.

Still a little roughness to work off in getting back my steam.  These drugs are not quick to exit my system.  Woke during a liver dump, and it was a horrid experience, dizzy, nauseous, high blood pressure, a real bell ringer.  But the body absorbed it in a few hours, though I’m still dragging and achy from it.  I just want to get rid of it all.  I’m tired of it.

.

Weather at the turning point today.  The front passed through, wind out of the north.  Waiting for the dew point to drop before I turn off the A/C and open the windows.  But summer has departed Texas.

nanas in the mist

Went out this morning to roll up the extension cord for the wifi range extender, and found these growing right off the back porch, just out of reach.

Connected

24Mbps, 1TB bandwidth/mo, solid, stable feed.  5GHz channel for the new Mac.  The hub is next door, which is sweet.  I can be comfortable with it.  Gave the connection a shakedown for 12 hours yesterday.  Can’t find any reason for complaint.

.

I’d be hard pressed to move 34G of stuff per day for 30 days.  A daily 10G would be an effort.  So I’m not going be paying any overages.

.

The range extender is down.  Need to take down the extension cord today.  Rain expected for the next four days.

Turning the corner

Posted on Monday, September 19th, 2016 at 10:28 pm

Starting to get back a little energy, and the sore spot is finally gone.  A three week ride I don’t want to take again.

.

Getting the office set up for the fi-op installation.  Made pretty good progress for the day.  Hoping to order it tomorrow.

.

Eating well, steak, jambalaya, chicken and broccoli, lots of good food.

Steaks

A  couple of T-bones are in the fridge marinading.  Smoke will rise in the backyard today.

.

Still not very perky.  I would love to find some energy somewhere.  The tender spot on my leg is taking its own sweet time healing.  It’s getting better, but much too slowly for my taste.  Ten days now since I quit the Cipro, and I’m still feeling the effects.

.

It will be a close call on the new Mac in early October, especially if I have to replace the alternator on the truck.  I may be seeing the MacAir sometime in the near future.  Flash has notice that my MacBook is too old with 10.7.5, but it installed and works anyway.  Something has got to happen and soon.

End of the tunnel

Well, I’ve been off of antibiotics for a couple of days, and I’m still dragging tail.  I’d love to be bouncy, but the body is just not cooperating.  I want to get busy on getting the office ready for fi-op installation.

.

Pie in the Sky is pretty much finished and not attracting any attention.  Not really that surprised.  It was fun putting it together.  It will be there for a while.

.

Weather is starting to lose it’s summer edge.  Highs around 90°F are noted after a long string of 97°F.

.

I’ll be in the kitchen tonight roasting recipe chicken, maybe making jambalaya.

Pie in the Sky

The Pie in the Sky forum was installed today.  Got some of the basic security nailed down and fleshed it out a bit.  It will take some time to get things ready for it to open.  But it’s finally there.

.

The allergic reaction is starting to heal.  And the general assault is letting up as well.  Three pills to go before I’m off the dose and can get back on with life.  It’s been a stint that ate up far too much of my life,

.

Sleep is still not difficult to find.  Zzzzz.

4 days to go

Posted on Thursday, September 8th, 2016 at 11:49 am

Four days left of the Ciprofloxacin.  I will be grateful to see it end.  Got a spot on my right shin that might be a scrape, might be a side effect.  I don’t remember barking it.  Watching it closely.

.

The trip back from Bryan had the voltage regulator on the truck starting to fail, going from smooth voltage adjustment to on/off.  Repairs will keep until next week.  Won’t need to go anywhere unless there is an emergency.  It will handle local runs, just not the highway.  Researching the issue.

.

Looks like the SMC issue on the MacBook was solved by using line command to disable Spotlight.  So far, so good.  Looks like an old system/new hardware incompatibility.

.

Fi-op delayed a week.  Not up to getting the room ready for installation until I get off the anti-b’s.

.

Sleeping a lot.  Eating well.  Issues are being paced.  It’s just a matter of being patient until I can drink some kefir and get my body back to normal.  Until then, staying in the A/C (80°F dew point) and taking it easy.

.

.

Update.  Went into the clinic this afternoon and got taken off the Ciprofloxacin and put on Bactrim DS for the remaining four days.  YEAH!!!  The shin wound was a side effect, and so I’m now listed as allergic to Cipro.

.

Went and got some kefir and cheesecake to celebrate.

Bryan

Posted on Sunday, September 4th, 2016 at 8:57 am

In Bryan for a short stint.  Not a whole lot happening other than bandwidth.  (I am looking forward to the fi-op installation this week.)  Made my store/gas run this morning while the sun was on the horizon.

.

The new laptop is getting closer to being a reality.  All I have to do is be frugal.  Fortunately the existing laptop seems stable.  I think I have tracked down the problem.  I’ll have to test it out when I get home.

.

Not enjoying the antibiotics, but at least I’ve pretty much gotten the infection licked.  I’ll be glad when the next week is over and the dosage runs out.
