Close call
Posted on Friday, September 30th, 2016 at 9:25 amI ordered the MacBook Pro this morning, and talk about a close shave…
.
I had given up on getting the new laptop this month, as the budget margin was just too close. But Wednesday evening, just shy of midnight, I discovered that it was on sale again at Best Buy, $200 off. I did some quick calculations and said, I can do this. I had 24 hours to kill. (Twiddling thumbs, hoping the sale would last.)
.
So I waited until just after midnight this morning, after the direct deposit was placed on my account, to place the order. However, the amount was a couple of hundred over my card’s limit. So the verification of the card failed. I grabbed a few hours sleep, then called the bank first thing and inquired. About an hour later I get the return call from the bank, purchase was cleared for acceptance.
.
I went to the site and updated the credit card info (same info), and then it was accepted, the order went through with the sale price. All is right with the world, except that I’m considerably poorer.
.
Then I go back to the product page a few minutes after the order was confirmed, and the MacBook Pro is no longer on sale. Talk about cutting it close! The slightest hesitation on my part would have sunk the whole sale, and I’d have been waiting for at least another month.
.
Anyway, I’ll be looking for it on Tuesday. It requires a signature to receive, so I will be watching the tracking closely.
.
……………………….
.
Well, the transaction was paused by the security watch on the card, so Best Buy cancelled the order. The money will be refunded to my account some time in the coming week.
.
I knew it was too good to be true.
