Staying over

Posted on Thursday, December 29th, 2016 at 10:44 am

I’ll be in Elgin for New Year’s.  I’m staying over a few extra days to see the new year in before heading back to Brenham.  Stopped packing yesterday, fortunately I hadn’t gotten too far when plans changed.

.

It’s considerably cooler today, a brisk wind out of the north dropping the temp inside a bit.  Yesterday’s 80’s won’t be around again for a while, but neither will freezing temps.  Myka has opted to stay inside this morning, as I haven’t been out to keep her company in this blustery weather.

.

One fringe benefit is that the extended stay allowed me to order takeout from Morelia’s.  Enchiladas Del Mar and Cajun Pasta, two of my favorites.  Dining on the porch here yesterday in the 82°F gentle breeze with Myka buzzing around my ankles was a delight that helped end the year properly.

T – 3 days

Starting to gear up on the logistics of heading back to Brenham, what goes where now, what has to wait for packing, errands to run.  The holidays have slowed things, but there is still ample time to get everything done.

.

It got up to 84°F today.  Whew!

.

Tabbed Killing Time in Texas today.  Not that hard to learn from having played it Donnie so many times.  And I can do it in E (capo) as the original or in C as I’m used to doing.

.

Thawed out one of the packs of pulled pork for Christmas Day.  That stuff is yummy.

Winding down

Less than a week left in the remote operations.  Starting to plan for the packing, the shopping, etc.  Got the quilt and blanket washed yesterday.  Myka loves the quilt folded into a cat bed.

.

I still need to swap out the muffler.  I have let myself become distracted on a daily basis.  A chance of rain in the forecast for the next five days, so doing the muffler myself is iffy now.

.

I need to make a run to the storage unit.  I may do that today.

Finally got my greeting card made and distributed.

Pulled

Posted on Monday, December 12th, 2016 at 8:18 pm

The pulled pork got made today, and it turned out yummy, everyone wanting seconds.  The Bowmans and Donnie Green and Sharon showed up for an afternoon jam session, and we had a very good time celebrating Lyse’s birthday in absentia.

.

Got yet another batch of homemade cookies for my birthday.

.

Didn’t get all my chores done today.  I dozed off after getting everything in order.

Birthday blues

Posted on Sunday, December 11th, 2016 at 10:17 pm

Another one of those birthdays where I didn’t hide well enough.  Numerous cat scratches and a bite atop my head, and it looks like Myka is an indoor cat again.  A shame.

.

Pulled pork got delayed, but I think I’ll get it going tonight.

.

Grumble, grumble.

Myka’s day out

Posted on Sunday, December 11th, 2016 at 12:07 am

Myka spent the majority of daylight outdoors for the first time in almost a year.  She came in at 4 pm and slept like a rock until after 8 pm.  The first three days in Elgin were full of details, and I managed to get Myka outside after she became comfortable with the inside.  Now it’s a constant mewling to be let out.

.

She also got to meet Yobi and Jango.  She stayed beside me when Jingo started his charge, and I wagged him off with a finger within two steps. So I’m hoping there can be peaceful co-existence.

.

Making pulled pork for tomorrow.

.

Got a muffler for the truck.  The front collar came off.  Haven’t installed it yet.

.

As I said, days with many details.  I could go on and on.  On the back side of a cold front.  It was cool in Grandmas when we had 30 mph winds with 40 mph gusts and a wind chill in the 20’s.  The heater has been throttled back.

packing again

Posted on Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 at 12:34 am

In the process of getting ready to head west tomorrow with Myka in tow for the first time.  Truck is ready to roll.  I just need to get stuff back into it, plus Myka’s needs for three weeks.

.

Still not 100%, a lingering set of very mild symptoms that sap my energy more than I appreciate.  Temp is consistently subnormal.  The symptoms only show up now and then, nothing steady or debilitating, but stamina is not back yet.

.

Tomorrow, I’ll be in Elgin, and I can kick back and let Myka explore the outdoors.

another bug

Back in Brenham for a short spell.  Getting over the sinus virus that took me out of circulation for a number of days.  Still a little lingering bit of symptoms.  Hit my sinuses first, then my throat.  It tried to get in my lungs, but it ran out of steam.  It won’t quite go away, but at least I have some energy.  That sends the 2016 illness span to over four months total, and there is still another month to go.

.

So the stay in Austin was not quite as peppy as it might have been if I had only the party to recover from.  But I made it through it.  And I fund the source too.  Now the turn around is back to Elgin for three weeks, through the holidays.

.

Still looking forward to being peppy.  I’m hoping that it’s not far off.  I have Myka to transport.  It’s only an hour, but I’m not looking forward to it.  But maybe she will enjoy being outside a bit.

.

Truck needs some attention, nothing critical yet, but there are symptoms.  I’ve got the funds, butI need the MacBook Pro if I’m going to get any work done.  I’ve been obsolete far too long.
