Deep in installations

Posted on Sunday, January 29th, 2017 at 11:33 am

In the nut and bolt stage for almost a week.  It’s been a lot of relatively slow downloading, with much of the stuff piling up in a folder.  Mixed in with this is looking at the new features of the ones I have installed, some massive learning curves ahead.  This is going to take several more days to get everything squared away on the hard drive before I put installation brain behind me.  (This doesn’t mean that I won’t be adding software for quite some time, it just won’t be the big ticket stuff.)

.

Been eating a lot of traditional meals lately, lots of bird in the mix.  Turkey dinner, chicken pot pie, etc.  Not that it’s all been traditional.  I am eating quite well.

.

Sleep has been pretty erratic, too many technical details bouncing around in my head, keeping me from easily falling asleep except after a big meal.

.

But the end result is that I am getting back in the digital swing with the new refurb.  It should be a lot fun to play with in a few weeks.

RIP ribs

Posted on Tuesday, January 24th, 2017 at 9:18 pm

Just ate the last rib from the freezer. (sniff)  R.I.P.

.

Today was a day of sloth  I had spent the previous five days working, rolling, installing, configuring, burning DVDs, and much more.  Today was my weekend where I practiced sloth with a vengeance.  I didn’t even boot up the refurb.  A nice long soaking bath (thanks to the stopper for the tub that I bought last week), the last rib and ribeye tacos, with cheesecake chaser.  Sunny day in the low 80s made for a joyful day of utter laziness.  (Okay, I did laundry, but hey…)

.

I ordered 8G of RAM for the refurb, much better than 3G.  It is scheduled to arrive Thursday, so no big installations until it’s operating with a full deck.  (It will only upgrade to 10.11.6, won’t take 10.12, but I can live with that obsolescence, as it doesn’t exclude any software that I’ve seen so far.)

.

The new muffler is oh so nice.  I found out why I had so much trouble getting the muffler off, it was welded on (so expertly welded that I couldn’t see any trace of the fact).  But that begs the question, why were there clamps on the muffler?

.

Got 6 packs of Kountry Boy boudin while in Brenham.  One went to Lyse, another will be given away.  I can survive on 4 packs.  The manager let me have a sausage/cheese kolache and a cheese danish that was part of my order for free.

.

The house in Brenham is in chaos.  It still has a lingering odor, but ZorbX should handle it.  The ice trays and ice bin were salvaged, much to my relief.  I’m using the bin here.  I can wait until March to return.

.

Plenty more details about the five days of grunt, but they’ll just have to take flight on the wind, as I’m too lazy to elucidate.

Esther’s photos

I added the photos of Esther’s Follies that I scanned for the new book about the history of Esther’s to the photo section.  Click the Esther’s button up top.

I will be staying on in Elgin for the most part of the rest of the month and for February (house sitting again).  I’m off to Brenham this weekend, with a stop in Bryan.  Looking forward to replenishing the boudin stock here.  Lots of errands to run.

.

Tomorrow, I head north to Taylor and get the muffler fixed.  Then I head west to Pflugerville to purchase a refurb 2009 MacBook Pro.  It will fill the bill for html design and browsing with up to date software until I can get the production machine.  I can afford the monster now, but internet inadequacies here have me delaying the purchase even further.  (And I’m paying the service contract not to use the FiOS.)

.

But life rolls on.  Rib-eye tacos, all sorts of goodies.  Down to three surviving items from the freezer.  Things could be much worse.

Still waiting

The days keep rolling by and I am still waiting to head home.  It’s been two months since I left for the Thanksgiving party.

wink

Made a GIF of Myka winking every three minutes.  (Yes, you have to watch it for three minutes to see it wink.)

Okay, okay, you only have to wait 5 seconds for this one.

2017

Posted on Wednesday, January 4th, 2017 at 3:44 am

The New Year’s party was definitely fun.  Lots of energy.  Myka got out and refused to come back in until I woke at 5:30 am, and she was at the door wanting in, after everything had settled.  She was not used to that sort of energy level and definitely anxious being inside.  There were fireworks and firearms going off everywhere, and lots of hooting and hollering.

.

I have two to three more days here.  The fridge is being replaced, so I am awaiting word that it’s installed and running.  The old one died, taking with it everything in it.  All those rib eyes that I never got to eat, along with the  ribs, loins, tenderloins, steaks, chicken, ham, and everything else.  What a waste.  If I had only been there when it failed…

.

Not a lot to do at this point except wait.  I was ready to make the transition home, so I’m just biding time.  I got all the new year digital duties done, but I badly need to do a burn session when I get back.

.

The MacBook Pro is still on course, though delayed a few days.  Trying not to spend any money that I don’t have to.
