Pretty pictures (most of the time)

  • Shoes and other stuff

Well, I’m beginning to feel like Amelda Marcos, as I’m now the owner of eight pair of wearable shoes.  I  have no idea when it was that I  was last so well endowed with quality footwear.  Nike, Sperry, and more.

    .

The picks I ordered have finally shipped.  And the toys that weren’t backordered have all arrived, rainstick, wood block, maracas,  nylon brushes, guiro scraper, cowbell beater (with rubber side), and harmonica holder (for my kazoo).  The cabasas is on its way, and the guiro and cowbell are still on backorder.  We now have a wide array of toys for the jam sessions, so no one has an excuse for not joining in the music.

    .

The picks are my standard Pro-Grip medium, a 351 tortoise shell that I’ve used for over 15 years, since I discovered them when I bought the 12 string.  I have used 60 of the half gross I got then, and I found a place where I got 5 dozen to bring myself back up to a full half gross.  The dozen I still have would probably last me two or three years, but they have been discontinued, so it’s now or never, and I chose now.  I was lucky to have found these, as everyone else is sold out.  I probably won’t need to ever buy picks again, as long as they don’t get lost or stolen.

    .

Add to the list the two pair of Wiss scissors (5 inch electrician and 8.5 inch industrial shears), which I have missed immensely.  It is so nice to have quality cutting tools back in my life.  I think they were probably the last tools I needed to replace from the shuffle.  I don’t know where my originals are, maybe in boxes in the barn, maybe somewhere long gone.  It’s a joy to feel them  in my hands once again.

    .

We’ve been keeping the delivery trucks rolling.  Lots of online tracking going on.  I took advantage of having funds, and I think that the shopping spree has concluded.  I can’t think of anything I want now, except a new wallet.  Finding the style I want (a specific type of traveler’s wallet) is not going to be easy.

2010 Cadilac SST (British seating), in modo

    .

  • Amphora

A rough amphora that I modeled, shaded, and rendered in modo.  1k polygons, so a bit rough in places, but it works well enough for medium range.  I considered a specular map, but decided against more effort, leaving it a weathered relic.

  • No no Nos……

Caught nursoda’s Nos upon release, second in the just released window.  A great match for Muggie.  Here’s Muggie and Nos, in Poser.

    .

  • Playing in the water

Since there haven’t been any rain clouds passing overhead lately, I thought I’d go play in the water, in modo.  Low flight POV.

    .

  • More Nursoda

Got Aina and Flish by Nursoda recently.  I’ve got quite a collection of his stuff, most everything he’s released.  I should do something with them, if I can find the time and energy.  It would certainly be fun.

  • Semil and Anceata

Saturday was the first house concert at Bottomland, featuring David Vidal, Rick Dinsmore, and Jocelyn Callard, and I did sound.  I was tipped $25 for my efforts, which were greatly appreciated, guaging from the remarks of many there.  I’ve been dealing with the audio tracks recorded from the mixer board, and I must say, the sound is very nice.  David is a rare talent and was a treat for all who attended, and the CD that I assembled is as good as any live albums I’ve heard.

    .

I used part of the $25 on Nursoda’s Anceata and Semil from Renderosity.  Nice figures.  I like them…. Rendered in modo.

    .

  • Escape

A nine year old fire escape model that I uncovered online, and a plane I made for the backdrop.  All materials from scratch inside modo, no image maps used.

  • Wind up

Today was the calm, the gentle winter rain, before the show tomorrow.

    .

Finish off with a few details and add a ship.

    .

  • Torf

Addded Torf by Nursoda to the collection.  I just love his figures.

    .

  • Sec

    A securitron in modo.

    .

  • modo render

    Same scene, imported into modo.

    .

  • The rest of the gang…..

Yweeb and Slon.  Poser.  Self explanatory…..

    .

  • Nursoda additions

I broke down and bought SpeCtor, Slon, and Yweeb by Nursoda.  They were not in my collection, and the fact was itching my id something fierce.  What can I say, I like his work in 3D.

    .

Here’s SpeCtor, rendered in modo (I like this guy’s mechanics):

  • Fuzzy Apple

I decided that I want my apple to be fuzzy.

    .

  • Apple’s apple

I saw a constructed Apple logo on Turbo Squid today as I was there doing a two month refresh of the available freebies.  It was for C4D, and was 25M.  I had to wonder why so large without succumbing to the urge to download it to find out what was bloating the download.  Instead, I made my own from scratch in modo.

    .

The reflection texture gave it a little character to celebrate the release of Lion, even though I’m not running it yet.  Pardon me if the reflection bears some resemblance to surgical scars.

    .

  • King Totoro

Got a hold of the original movie for a reference, and I made a few modifications. I think this is truer than any I’ve seen, though there are still changes I’d like to do. But for now, it works for me. But I’d like to see a leaf between his ears.
    .

  • Totoro fin

The finished Totoro, in modo.  Wasn’t expecting my time to be free this afternoon, but instead of waiting all afternoon for nothing to happen, I sat down and finished the conversion and the tweaks, and walked the dogs and cat while the render took place.

    .

  • Kinuko/Koshini

A couple of Japanese doll meshes with optional textures. Reminds me a bit of Tiny Japanese Girl by Savlonic.

  • Sappho

“To ancient Greece, where burning Sappho loved and sang and stroked the wine dark sea in the temple by the moonlight, wah dae doo dah.”

  • Never get cocky……

Irony is available in the world, and it will touch you, regardless.

    .

Parts for phase two of washing machine repair arrived this morning (Tuesday).  They arrived from an order placed late Sunday, online.  Amazingly fast, since it had to have shipped on Monday.  24 hour ground service, wow.

    .

I got the washer repaired the second time.  I should digress that the first time was the motor coupling (weak link technology), my successful diagnostic back on Thursday of last week when I returned here, fixed on Saturday after another 24 hour delivery.  The return of function to the drive revealed a bad case of abused dogs (primitive gears) that were minus their teeth on the agitator.  It was wobbling badly, so I replaced the two parts, both of which needed replacing, without having seen them before replacement.  It was a pain to remove the agitator casing, as pegs had been literally melted into place to hold it together.

    .

So the first load is in the washer, purring like it never had in my experience, when a tubing broke in the bathroom, under the sink.  It ran unnoticed for about 5 minutes.  As soon as I became aware of it, I ran to shut off flow to the house from the well.  Fortunately, there was no major damage.  But it took a lot of bending and wringing, and my back complained seriously.  But it was cleaned up thoroughly and no carpets were seriously soaked, just the bare edges.  A couple of rugs are out in the yard drying.  Both are durable rugs.  No furniture got soaked.  The floors are durable and seem to be holding up.

    .

The aneurysm that spew forth the water was in a shutoff to faucet, wire shielded, connector tubing.  It’s been removed for replacement shopping.

    .

As it goes with successful repairs, especially in a succession, don’t get cocky.

    .

All this after setting up Miki 3 for a rendering in modo.  I like the figure, much, much, much better than V4 when it comes to exporting.  So much easier, because it does what it’s supposed to be doing.

    .

Still some tweaking of the materials, subsurface scattering on the skin, the eyes, glossy hair, etc.

    .

  • Winding up

The finale party is looming, a mere four days away.  Preparations are in swing, though not so much here.  Here, I’m gathering wind, allowing my body to heal a little more before the onslaught.

    .

Connie and David will be appearing, as will Patty.  Got confirmation of Patty today, and it will be a joy to hear them play together.  I know they are looking forward to it.

    .

Rendering a higher resolution copy of crunch crunch.  I’ll probably be doing the celery song several times, just so that the poster makes sense, and everyone goes “crunch crunch” when Doug gobbles.

    .

    Wish I felt better.

  • Admitting to a slump

I admit it, I’m in a 3D slump.  I haven’t rendered anything seriously in months.  There is no real drive to do so at the moment.  I’ve experienced it before, so there is no real concern.  No one is offering me money to render right now, so I’m relaxed about it.  I can live with it.

    .

There are numerous reasons.  One is lots of physical work has kept me off the processor more than usual.  Autumn has been a time for getting stuff done outdoors, between the heat and the cold spells.   Except for web work and some sales material layout, I’m not doing a whole lot commercially.  I’m not particularly inspired right now, and the 3D community is just rubbing me the wrong way, so I probably won’t get any juice from there.

    .

Music, while I’ve been learning new songs and relearning some old ones, is pretty slim too.  Not that I haven’t been playing, but my guitar pads are definitely atrophying, sometimes even peeling.  I’m not playing much between performances.  But that comes largely from being tired from the physical work.

    .

And I’m currently fighting off something in my throat, a slight soreness and a quick low-grade fever.  So all in all, I attribute it all to being physically exhausted.  Throw in the days getting shorter…..

    .

I need to come up with a TRD poster, an annual something I’ve been doing for a decade or more.  (Gobble, gobble……  crunch, crunch. /Inside joke.)

    .

    (And I did……)

    .

  • Here, kitty kitty…..

For Sweetie, a Double Yellow Headed Amazonian Parrot that I occasionally feed.  Here, kitty kitty…. is one of her favorite phrases.

    Here, kitty kitty….

  • Shaders on modo 4.0.1 SP5

Running a few shaders through a render, making sure there’s no surprises (there so seldom are, especially recently).  Polished bronze and stoneware.

    .

  • The Pianist

Finished the scene immediately below.  Hair was the only post-production.
